Went for dinner at the lodge - ate at the Pioneer Bar. This is the "budget" location for the resort. The menu and drinks matched that although the prices were basically the same as the rest of the resort - still pretty high. The food was bar food and about what you'd expect from trestle tables and benches.

Good hotel with choice of eating places to suit all pockets. All very clean and shipshape except toilet pan was coated in greyish limescale and base of bath a red stain. I guess they have a policy against strong cleaning chemicals. We only stayed one night on our organised tour, but it was fine for us.

This review is about the Lodge, not the hotel. I stayed in one of those 20 bed dorms at $38 a night. Friendly staff, clean facilities. Everything was ready. Very little privacy, but that is to be expected at 20 to a dorm: I could not find any lockers to leave wallet, passport etc so all that you treasure you need to keep with you. Nobody stole my stuff when I left it unguarded though so maybe nothing to worry about. Overall great value for the money. One concern is that there is overall a bewildering selection of things to do and see and sometimes it is not clear exactly what is going on. It is very important to plan ahead exactly what you want to do, sometimes down to the minute as there are many organized trips and tours. Don't just plan to show up and decide on the spot what to do. I took the hop on hop off and it was great. Overall, though, this lodge is very good value for the money and I recommend it for the budget traveler who still wants to be treated reasonably well.

Excellent accommodation especially when you think of the low price of the lodge. The room was clean, linens, shower facilities as well. Nice place to meet new people, also. People are more open to strangers as we all are travellers! Employees were helpful. Nice place to eat and/or cook.

Dorm rooms are compact but adequate. Very clean. Staff very courteous and friendly. Shortage of power points in dorm.
